To take a Pause, tap the “Pause” button at the bottom left of the home screen and touch the screen. Little stars follow your finger, and a few small things are there to try, or nothing at all.
Open the Pause
The “Pause” button sits at the bottom left of the home screen, opposite the button for making something to share. It opens a quiet page. Touch the screen and little stars follow your finger. Stay ten seconds or ten minutes. Nothing is timed.
”Revisit your photos”
You see one photo you kept at least two weeks ago, with its caption and its date. “Swipe for another photo”, or tap “Open this day” to read that page. It only shows photos from your own notebook.
Hide a photo from the Pause
Tap “More” on a photo and choose “Don’t show it again”. Niravah says “Hidden here. It’s still where you left it.” It is hidden from the Pause only, nothing is deleted. To bring one back, open “Manage hidden photos” and tap “Show again”.
”Feel your words”
“Write a few words, then slide your finger over them.” Tap “Keep”, and your words appear big and raised, so you can feel each letter. If your phone’s vibration is off, “You can still just look."
"Notice something”
A strip of paper turns and stops on one small thing to notice. Tap “Unroll the paper”, and swipe up or down for another line. Most lines are gentle invitations, like looking at where the light lands. A few are questions, and “Nothing to answer."
"Take a photo” or “Write a few words”
“Take a photo” saves it to today’s page, and “Added to today” confirms it while you stay in the Pause. “Write a few words” opens today’s journal page.
Set a gentle reminder, if you like
On the Pause page, “Plan my pauses” opens the reminder, or find “Pause” in Settings. Turn on “Gentle reminder”, then choose “Days” and “Times”. “Add a time” allows up to three. It is off by default, and you can ignore it without consequence.
Good to know
The Pause is part of the free app, and your first notebook is free. Your pages stay on your phone by default.
